A Step Off The Beaten Path

Why the Galapagos is Special (by Evan)

File_007 (10)The Galapagos is special to me because of all these animals from all over found themselves at a special place called the Galapagos. They started laying eggs and mating and after a while the animals started changing to fit the environment their DNA started to change. The finches beaks started getting bigger and longer. They also started changing different colors like white, black, and white with black spots. The same thing happened with tortoises. They started getting bigger, wider and taller to help them with the environment so they could survive in the Galapagos. 15 years later a El Niño came. A El Niño is a lot of hot water that comes and shoves all the cold water out of the way causing food to stop growing. The El Niño forced the fish to go down deeper into the water killing lots of animals that rely on fish. The El Niño also makes it rain a lot so the Galapagos floods. In the case of the iguana they absorb their skeleton making themselves smaller so they don’t eat as much so they can survive when the El Niño comes. The thing that impresses me the most is how the animals got there. Why are the animals so much more unique and different from the original species? How could they survive with such harsh conditions?

Did you know:  The Galapagos was formed by volcanoes erupting over and over again until it broke the surface and floated a few centimeters a year farther and farther away from land. A little while later the lava turned into lava rock and collected different seeds that made an environment around themselves so they could make the Galapagos happen.

Did you know:  Galapagos hawk is a predator to every animal in the Galapagos other than other birds.

Did you know:  You can only find the albatrosses and the Espanola marine iguanas at Espanola island.

Did you know:  All of the animals never run and they stay and observe what you are doing.

He doesn’t have access to any internet or any electronics at all. I will show your blog to him when he returns home.
