Evan insisted that we take a water taxi. So we did, and it turned out to be one of our favorite experiences. We took the first one that came to the canal pier. At some point, we got off. Rounded the corner and found ourselves at the base of The Golden Mount, part of a Buddhist temple complex in western Bangkok. I guess when you get lost in Thailand, you find a temple!
Overnight Sleeper Car to Chiang Mai
Due to a cancellation (and the lady at the ticket office, Jee, holding back tickets until we could get back to the station), we were able to upgrade to an air conditioned sleeper car. The sleeper car was sooo much more comfortable. But the AC turned out to be totally unnecessary as the temperature in all the train cars turned subarctic after midnight. OK, subarctic is a bit of an exaggeration, but hey, we’re from Texas, y’all. We started in 5 beds and ended up in 2 🙂
Click here to see exactly what our seats looked like and how they convert the seats into a bed.
The 13 hour train ride cost a little over $100 for the 5 of us.
Thanks for the great pics & commentary! Glad you’re having a great time.
Love you guys.
Good to see everyone smiling in these distant lands! Larry and I love the photos! Happy trails!!!
Wow! So beautiful. I am happy to hear about the upgrade on the train. Keep the posts coming we love them!
P.S. Roxy says she misses you.
What a great adventure. Where are you staying now and for how long?
We are in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and will stay here until the second week of February. We are looking at going to Laos from here.
If you do a bit of Trekking in the area, with guides, besides being a lot of fun, it will prepare you a lot more to be in Laos. Laos is NOT like Thailand!
I took a 30 hour train ride across China. Amazing how the journey can be an experience in itself.
